"This place is a hidden gem. Breakfast is alway free and a great way to start your day. The complimentary happy hour offers a wonderful charcuterie spread along with white or red wines. The whimsical nature of the manicured grounds are fun to examine and photograph. The pool, wrap around decks, rocking chairs, beach chairs, bikes and hammocks offer a variety of relaxation. Of course, the private access to the ocean is just a short walk to the beach. Staff are friendly and helpful. Alma was new to the resort but was a pleasure to meet. Not our first trip and we will be back again!"

What a truly amazing stay, from the front desk , the young girl who helped seat us each morning for breakfast, the amazing food, the clean comfortable room, beautiful grounds and the sweet housekeeping staff who came by to check if we needed anything. "An absolute gem of OBX! Beach access, a pool, porch swings, breakfast-- what more could you need? This was our first time staying at the First Colony Inn, and on day two we agreed that we would be returning and staying here again next summer. I've been coming own to OBX for 30 years with my family and normally stay at a big house. As it was just two of us, we decided to check out the inn and it did not disappoint. Lovely little historical details, birds chirping, a whimsical garden, and truly wonderful, kind staff. We rode bikes to nearby spots, enjoyed use of the provided beach chairs and towels, and lounged by the pool (which always had open seats!) Location is close to great restaurants like Sam & Omie's, there's mini golf and ice cream just across the high way, and it truly felt like returning home at the end of the day. The bathroom and whole room really felt larger than in the photos, and were very relaxing and charming. The provided breakfast was tasty and had a little something anyone could enjoy. We will definitely be back!"

The manager and her entire team were friendly and so helpful with everything we needed (including where to find a great non-touristy place for dinner). "This was our second trip and we loved our time at the Inn. The gardens are so refreshing, amusing and a treat. We are amazed at the creativity exhibited in the gardens and the porches. The porch chairs invite you to pause and just sit awhile. Justin added so much to our stay, his good morning smile and the breakfasts we are already missing. We would not think of staying anywhere else in Nags Head. Thank you for the refreshment we needed and received. We hope to see you again next year."

"First let's talk about the Pro's. The Inn is in a great location. Although it is surrounded by Nags Head, you feel like you are in your own secluded resort with the beautiful landscaping surrounding the entire compound. It is an easy walk across the street to the beach with a dedicated pathway just for visitors. They provide really nice beach chairs if you need one. The room prices are fair and doable. Included in the price of your stay is an amazing breakfast every morning. All kinds of sweets, fruits, cereal, muffins and a hot plate selection from the chef. And when I say hot plate, I mean lemon cream stuffed French toast with fresh blueberries and blueberry syrup, etc. Also included is a Wine and cheese happy hour every afternoon. The house wine is delicious and they provide a huge charcuterie board loaded with fruits, cheeses, crackers, olives, pickles, cookies and so much more. The pool was clean and there were lounge chairs, pool toys and umbrellas. I was told there were towels available, but I brought my own. Because of a limited amount of rooms you will find it to be quiet and peaceful. Decks all the way around with ample seating to catch the sea breeze. The rooms were very cute and a bit rustic. I have only two Con's. My heated towel bar did not work and they advertised robes in the rooms which I did not have. Seriously, who cares? A lovely, lovey place to stay."

"Great experience. Our room was on third floor, facing sunset. Very private and quiet. Lovely breakfast service and afternoon wine social. We had three days of socked-in fog and TV outage, but we made the best of our stay, despite these issues. Other guests provided interesting conversation. Very relaxing setting."

"Nice historic inn located at the midway point when visiting the Outer Banks. We stayed on the 3FL John Spendlove room. Complimentary breakfast each morning was plentiful and delicious! I loved being able to fill up my small travel cooler with ice to take on our day outings. The bathroom shower was pretty tight (travel trailer size), but the towel warmer was a plus. The small kitchenette with frig and bar sink was also convenient. Highly recommend First Colony Inn."

"We loved our stay! On our rainy Sunday, we enjoyed a wonderful warm breakfast with so many sweet treats. Our room was very clean and had great natural lighting, we stayed in room 24. All staff were very kind and welcoming. We also loved the beach access and bikes being included! "
